An Educational Grant for Seniors at Osseo Senior High School

Michael’s Gift

Each year, one or more educational grants are awarded in memory of Osseo High School graduate Michael (Herbst) Maddox (Class of 1992) who was killed in 2016 by an inattentive, teenage driver.  We request the recipient of the educational grant(s) keep in mind what can happen when people are not fully attentive to the very complex and often dangerous task of driving a motor vehicle.

From the time Michael made his first trip on the Oregon Trail on his 2E, he was enthralled with the world of computer technology.  Michael’s Gift applicants should be students who have excelled in the technology programs available to them at Osseo High School.  Ideally, they are students who interact with their instructors and classmates and contribute to their communities in positive and constructive ways.

The grants are intended for expenses incurred in preparation for a career in technology. They will be given to Osseo graduates each year in the form of cashier’s checks payable to the applicant or applicant(s) who are selected by the grant’s managers based on teacher recommendations. The grant amount and number of selectees each year is based on the funds available from market investments, but is usually about $2000 per person.

The grant managers generally seek out Osseo High School teachers who can provide recommendations, but any Osseo High School graduating senior who feels s/he/em/ey has attained an extensive education in technology and would like to be considered should ask a teacher to contact the grant managers for guidelines for making recommendations.  This contact can be initiated by email and should occur by March 1.
